On September 10-th, 2006 has been signed the contract for the concession of the airports in Burgas and Varna. On November 10-th, 2006 Fraport Twin Star Airport Management assumed responsibility for the personnel, assets and future development of both airports. The German Bulgarian consortium won the concession for a period of 35 years during which in both airports will be invested a total of 403 million EUR for building new passenger terminals, airport infrastructure improvements, expansion of the aircraft stands, apron, parking area, purchasing groundhandling, equipment, etc.

In 1970 Burgas Airport has become an international airport. Aircraft from 45 destinations landed or took off at Burgas airport.

The Fifties and Sixties of the last century are marked by unprecedented prosperity of Burgas airport. The airport has been expanded and modernized – a concrete runway has been constructed, the equipment has been fully updated. As a result, the national press defines it as "the most modern airport in Bulgaria and the Air-palace Burgas”.

On June 29-th 1947 at Burgas airport landed the first English passenger aircraft S-52 servicing the route Sofia - Burgas. The landing of the aircraft gives the beginning of the Sofia-Burgas air-route servicing passengers until now.

In 1942 at Burgas airport arrive skilled German engineers and geodesist to guide the expansion of the airport in order to facilitate the landing of larger aircraft. The airport is connected to the electrical system and is equipped with large fuel tanks.

As birthday of Burgas airport counts June 27, 1927. On that day the French company SIDNA, which later will be renamed Air France, chose the area of Burgas airport to build a radio station. The contract of the French company specifically noted that the staff of Burgas airport will be Bulgarian.
The first Bulgarian radiotelegraph-operator- Danail Denev, started work in 1938.
In 1941 Burgas Airport has been granted to Bulgaria by the French.
