Whenever dangerous goods are to be transported via air, the relevant data of the goods are always made available to the destination airports in accordance with the IATA standards. Regular training drills guarantee that all personnel, involved in handling dangerous goods, is well-prepared and have profound knowledge in this specialized field.
Safety is also an underlying priority, regarding the use of dangerous substances. Both personnel and environment shall be protected from the detrimental impact of dangerous chemical substances and preparations.
Control is exercised on all chemical substances, preparations and products, with special care on industrial safety, personnel health and ecological criteria, demanding rigorous observing of clear-cut protection safety measures and regulations on handling chemical substances.
In order to guarantee safety of aviation fuel and its storage by the Fuel Storage Department, in 2008 the storage facilities were provided with concrete bund walls to prevent eventual fuel spills from polluting the environment.
To prevent the uncontrolled release of dangerous substances and their permеation into the underground waters, in 2009 is envisaged that both airports be provided with separate sites for open treatment of airplanes with relevant sewerage systems and options of waste-water treatment.
